Houndmaster Toyotaro
Toyotaro: I promise the next traveller we see will be yours. No! Kill her boys. Kill her! Avenge your brothers, take her down! Meal time, boys! Eat well! Outsider. You are not Nine Tails.
Atsu: Poor dogs didn’t know any better.
Kojiro: I see you dealt with Houndmaster Toyotaro and his pack!
Atsu: Travellers will breathe a little easier now that he’s gone.
Kojiro: And you and I are just a little richer.
Snowstorm Katagiri
Katagiri: It is dangerous to be out in the snow.
Atsu: Fingers are stiff…
Katagiri: What’s wrong? Too cold for you?
Atsu: You deserved worse for what you did to those horses.
Inagawa the Gambler
Kojiro: Interested in a bounty that’s slightly more… exciting?
Atsu: Do I look bored to you?
Kojiro: (Chuckles) You won’t be after meeting this one… His name is Inagawa the Gambler, and he owns a gambling den that he never leaves. It’s right here in Teshui Ridge. The Bifuka Sake House.
Atsu: This must be the sake house run by Inagawa the Gambler.
Ronin: Fighting won’t be tolerated.
Inagawa: Welcome, stranger.
Atsu: You must be Inagawa.
Inagawa: Ah. Another hunter after the bounty on my head. Why don’t we make this interesting?
Atsu: Let me guess. One last game of zeni hajiki?
Inagawa: That’s the idea. Defeat me and I’ll give myself up peacefully.
Atsu: And if I lose?
Inagawa: I get your money, and you forget all about this bounty.
Atsu: Fine. I’ll play.
Inagawa: Good luck, bounty hunter.
Inagawa: Zeni hajiki is a tricky game, isn’t it? Seems you’re having a hard time. Looks like you’ve lost. I trust you’ll honour our deal and leave me in peace?
Atsu: How about a rematch?
Inagawa: (Chuckles) Maybe later. You should brush up on your skills first. Take my coins back upstairs.
Settler: (Clears throat) Stranger…
Atsu: What is it?
Settler: Let’s speak outside. Come with me. Inagawa’s a cheat. He’s duping you. The coins he plays with are weighted differently and only he knows how to tell them apart. You’ll never be able to beat him, unless —
Atsu: Unless I swap out his trick coins.
Settler: He’ll never see it coming.
Atsu: What do you gain by telling me this?
Settler: I owe the bastard money. Find a way to get upstairs and swap out his coins. You’ll get your bounty and I’ll be free of my debt. Or you can keep losing money to him. The choice is yours.
Atsu: (Sighs) So the coins are upstairs… Hm. Window’s open. Inagawa’s trick coins. Now to swap these out… There. About time I challenged Inagawa to another game.
Inagawa: The bounty hunter returns. Ready to try again? It can still go either way. Hm. Curious. Congratulations. You’re more resourceful than I expected.
Atsu: Now you’re coming with me.
Inagawa: Well, I am a man of my word. Lead the way.
Inagawa: About that deal we had — I lied.
Atsu: Once a cheater…
Inagawa: Must think you’re so clever. Got a good thing going here. I was never giving up without a fight!
Atsu: That’s the last cheat you’ll pull, Inagawa.
Atsu: I beat Inagawa the Gambler at his own game.
Kojiro: What was his secret?
Atsu: Cheating.
Kojiro: And now he lies dead. Remind me never to bet against you.
Nameless Killer
Nine Tail Leader: You know, I should thank you. You cleansed the weak from this place.
Atsu: Is that why you killed those settlers? They were weak?
Nine Tail Leader: I put their lives to good use. This world is for those with the will to survive. You know this. I see it in your eyes.
Atsu: You don’t know me.
Atsu: You won’t hurt anyone else.
Kojiro: Look at us. Making the world a better place.
Atsu: A bloodier place, at least.
Kojiro: You know, sometimes you just have to enjoy the little things.
Black Night Kubo
Kubo: Pretender! There can only be one Black Night Kubo!
Atsu: Relax. I’m here for your bounty.
Kubo: Liar. I know a challenger when I see one. I lured out the previous Black Night Kubo the same way. Just as he did to the Kubo before him. You want my name? You’ll have to take it.
Kubo: The black of night take you! The name is mine!
Atsu: (Exhales) It was just a name…
