Old Gods of Asgard: Take Control

Take control, take control

I see a vision rising, dreary
Fading in as children play twilight games
In the town called Ordinary
An eye of light reveals a gateway to doomsday

In that projection of reality
Something passes through the stars, shifting walls
Enter agents of ill fantasy
For evil holds you in its arms, false alarms

Illusory, treading on reality
Polaris in a web of hypocrisy
Take control, take control

Oh, can’t you see, see the light is fading?
And in the night the demons rage and call your name
No deeper madness than your own making
Visions lashing blades of shame, but will you take the blame?

Hissing noises in the hallway
Bloodshot eyes, staring through, what seeds are sown?
Who’ll survive the blood red power play?
Who’ll take control, whose name will be known?

Illusory, reality’s all fallacy
Polaris in a web of hypocrisy
Take control, take control

I wish I’d had the wherewithal to find you when I had the chance
Instead I danced with death in fervour’s skin
I missed the moment before the fall to recognise I had a voice
A choice to stop it all from happening
If only I could save you from the pain

A rising sense of awe and wonder
A might I see has always been deep within me
I can feel my inborn power
I call the shots when it’s all finally clear to see

And so I’m drawn ever deeper
In the Oldest House and all these empty rooms
This vacant, spellbound mystery motel
Where I’m the keeper, where I set the rules

Potency is my new reality
Polaris living now inside of me
I control, I control

Poets of the Fall: My Dark Disquiet

Night, the world, it’s mine, with nobody else out here
It’s time, run wild and royally cavalier
To burn, ignite, I’d do it for so much less
When all is made clear there is nothing else

And here we stand, the sweet arresting duality
And I come to, it’s resin all over me
Will I awake, will I get a ride with you
In this race of two

We’re an endless stream of choices
We’re the softest murmur of voices

Without names we’re fantasising
Dancing like flames, mesmerising
My dark disquiet playing such eerie harmonies

Making waves and diving under
Lightning to the sound of thunder
My dark disquiet singing such haunting melodies

So white, so still, so bright, it’s almost too painful now
I’m ready to fight, to run from the light
And here now comes the sweet corrupting reality
While now I’m free, will I once cease to be
Will I awake, will I get a ride with you
In this race of two

We are momentary masters
We’re false kings and bastards

Without names we’re fantasising…

We are marionettes by strings animated
Yet like lovers of strings liberated

Without names we’re fantasising…

Brothers by blood separated
Marionettes animated
Lovers of strings liberated

Sankarin Tango (Hero’s Tango)

Vaan hetki kuolos lepoo suodaan, jo takas kutsutaan

Aika särkyy, ikuisuuteen laukaus kajahtaa
Ei onnellista loppua hän kohtaa milloinkaan
Niin monta kertaa kerrottu tää tarina jo on
Sankarilla tuhat kasvoa, polku lohduton

Yksin sankar yöhön syvemmälle matkaa vois
Se taakka hänen harteillaan kuin lupaus aina ois
Täs pelissä tää narri lyödään maahan aina vaan
Vaan hetki kuolos lepoo suodaan, jo takas kutsutaan

Translation

Once, he mistook an ocean for a lake, he told us in a poem
In the depths of that mystery he spent his whole life
Under a dark ocean, in the shadows he wanders
Searching for a way back into the light to his loved one

Alone, the hero continues his journey into the night
That burden on his shoulders forever like a promise
In this game this fool is struck down again and again
Only a moment’s rest in death before he’s called back again

Time breaks into eternity, a gunshot echoes
There’s never a happy end for him
This story has been told many times before
The hero has a thousand faces and a hopeless path

Alone, the hero continues his journey into the night
That burden on his shoulders forever like a promise
In this game this fool is struck down again and again
Only a moment’s rest in death before he’s called back again

Langston: Freestyle

OK, I’m just going to freestyle a bit.
My mother always said never talk to strangers.
Always. Never. Always. Never.
But isn’t a stranger just someone you don’t know?
What if the only thing stopping a stranger from being a friend is that word?
Stranger
Strange-
-er
Strange like the noises you hear at night,
when there is no light,
and you cannot fight.
Strange like a rubber duck
that follows you around
and makes you drop your coffee every time that it quacks
because the noise scares you
and then you have to clean up
the coffee while the duck stares at you
and continues to quack.
Quack.
Quack.
Quack!

Langston: Me and You

This piece is called “Me and You”.
It’s summer in New York City.
A boy with a wolf’s head eats some ice cream.
The ice cream melts. The wolf head howls.
We howl together.
Me and you.
The mayor stares at a bicycle.
A little girl watches him watch the bike watch him watch the bike
and on and on and on
like the ticking of a thousand clocks.
We listen to the ticking together.
Me and you.
A traffic light decides it doesn’t want to be a traffic light anymore.
People call it names and it’s hurt.
I take it to see a movie.
We have a good time.
Me and you.
People think we’re weird but we ignore them.
We’re friends now, connected by a moment.
We’ll always share this story, even if people don’t understand it.
You and me.
Me and you.
