About the game

Release Year: 2025
Studio: Kojima Productions
Writer: Hideo Kojima (also director, producer, and designer; narrative reworked post-2020 to reflect the global impact of COVID-19)

Introduction:
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is the sequel to Hideo Kojima’s 2019 genre-blending hit. Picking up eleven months after the first game, this narrative-driven action adventure once again follows Sam Porter Bridges (Norman Reedus), now tasked with connecting isolated survivor colonies across Mexico and the Australian continent via a “chiral” network in a world ravaged by supernatural disasters and existential threats. Sam’s journey is both epic and intimate, featuring returning characters like Fragile (Léa Seydoux) and Higgs (Troy Baker), as well as a star-studded expanded cast. The sequel deepens the series’ core themes of connection, isolation, and perseverance in the face of personal and global catastrophe.

Why the Writing Matters:
Kojima’s script is central to the experience, evolving to meet the post-pandemic moment by weaving in themes of human vulnerability, the dangers and necessity of connection, and the existential question: “Should we have connected?” Dialogue—both philosophical and emotional—drives character development and unfolds the web of relationships and histories throughout the journey. Most notably, the writing is not just a vehicle for exposition but a core part of the player’s experience—shaping everything from moral choices to the way mythology, science fiction, and everyday life collide in Kojima’s vision.
