Introduction:
Resident Evil 3 (2020) is a third-person survival horror game that follows S.T.A.R.S. officer Jill Valentine as she attempts to escape Raccoon City during the T-virus outbreak, in the hours leading up to and overlapping with the events of Resident Evil 2. Constantly hunted by Nemesis, an intelligent bioweapon that smashes through walls, mutates over time, and wields heavy weaponry, Jill navigates city streets, sewers, and Umbrella facilities while managing scarce ammo and healing items. The game combines linear, set-piece-driven progression with the over-the-shoulder shooting and dynamic dismemberment introduced in the RE2 remake, and it ships bundled with Resident Evil: Resistance, an asymmetrical 4-vs-1 multiplayer mode.
Why the Writing Matters:
The remake sharpens Jill’s characterization, foregrounding her trauma from the mansion incident and her distrust of Umbrella as motivations that drive her through the disaster, while expanding her interactions with Carlos Oliveira and the U.B.C.S. squad to emphasize conflicting loyalties and corporate culpability. Environmental storytelling—files, posters, newspaper clippings, and in-world ads—layers in perspectives from ordinary citizens and low-level employees, framing Raccoon City as a lived-in place destroyed by negligence and greed. By restructuring events into a more cinematic arc with tighter pacing and more focused dialogue, the script turns Jill’s flight from Nemesis into a character-driven escape narrative, using banter, panic, and terse exchanges to keep tension high and make the relationship between hunter and hunted feel personal.
